Baking Pies

I've been elbow-deep in lovely pie crust dough all evening.  I was fortunate to marry into a family with some incredible traditions, the best of those traditions being PIE NIGHT.  Yes, folks, you read correctly.  There is a day of the year which my beloved in-laws devote entirely to the incredibly amazing, all-American, perfectly round delicacy that is PIE.  Oh my, oh my, oh my-- I love pie.  (So much that I'm declaring my devotion through rhyme, apparantly!)

It occurs on the night before Thanksgiving and it is the holiest of holidays in my book.  It's simply the best!  As we're not able to fly home this year, we're hosting our own Californian version of Pie Night.  So far we've got 15 pies coming (and their makers, too, of course)!  I'll follow with more details and pictures soon, but I'm just so excited I can't help but share my joy with all you lovely folks.  With any luck, Pie Night will catch on and someday become a national holiday.

Ahhh....sweet, sweet pie--you make me cry (tears of joy)...

New Website

Thanks to my lovely, amazing, talented, handsome husband, The Tilted Tulip has an official website that links to all my current projects.

Matt, you're the best (and your mad web skills are unparalleled)!

Craft Sale

It's been a bit silent here at The Tilted Tulip recently 'cause I spent much of last week being super crafty and getting everything ready for a craft sale I took part in this last weekend.  It was my first craft sale and it was definitely a good learning experience.  The crowd was not what I expected it to be, but I still ended up selling some items and making a small profit.

The best part was that in the scramble to get everything ready in time for this sale, I now have a HUGE stock of items fresh and ready to go in my etsy store just in time for the holiday shopping frenzy.  It's about time I unveiled some of my handmade goodies!  I've got lots and lots of fabric earrings, holiday gift tags and ornaments, new Novel Novels, and a few more vintage treasures to post over the next few days.

Keep a close eye on the shop---new stock coming soon...

Grosgrain

My sister-in-law, Kayleigh, introduced me to Grosgrain several months ago and it has been an absolute joy to see her amazing creations!  She is one very talented lady.  And the most unbelievably, incredible thing is that she GIVES AWAY many of the darling kids clothing she makes.  Wow.  You should definitely take a peek at her site.  It's simply adorable...

To get in on her next give-away, meander on over to this post.

I only hope that I when I have wee ones someday, I could have even a smidgen of her talent and creativity to pass on to my kids...

Time Passes Quickly

2009 calendar by happify

Holy Moley--I can't believe it's nearly 2009!  It's that time of year (with my birthday just around the corner!) when I realize that the pages of my calendar are getting sparse.  This year I've had the pleasure of glancing daily at a lovely calendar from happify, a very talented etsy seller.  Here is her calendar happily displayed in my house:

This calendar is extra special 'cause each page is also a postcard.  Come January, I'm sending out these lovelies to my nearest and dearests.  (*Keep an eye out!*)  So with calendars on the brain, I scoured etsy for some more favorites.  Here are my picks:

Oh, it's so hard to choose!  I just might have to buy one of each and gift them for Christmas.  (Or selfishly keep them ALL myself and spend 2009 being the most on-top-of-things-gal you'll ever meet!  Yikes!)  Hurry and scoop them up soon or you'll be stuck with the left-over piles of weird bargain bin cat calendars at Barnes&Nobles come February...

Lovely Finds

Stopping by a local thrift store today on a whim, I picked up a few lovely items...

...a lovely mustard yellow canister (perfect for my crochet hooks), a smattering of birds-in-flight, and some lovely brown floral cotton fabric.

Happy Election Day!

My thoughts about today...

PS I promise I was way more informed than I sound, although I do admit to voting out the whole school board AND city council in favor of my friends. What can I say? I'm loyal.
